Yosemite Moments #16
by Lon Overacker
Thanks so much for the comments and response to my last image. I've concluded that since comments and suggestions ranged on both sides - warm/cool on the granite, too much sat/not enough, dark/light, etc. that the image must be just right in the middle and I probably won't fuss much with it now. Thanks for the feedback!
From one of my favorites to one of my least favorites. But I told myself I was going to show the whole series, and this is next in line. Still on day three of our fall trip to Yosemite with Kyle K., Preston, Youssef and Chris, we spent quite a bit of time at this location just east of the Pahono Bridge and directly across from Fern Spring. As we've mentioned the Merced was very low this fall, allowing us to walk to parts of the river not ever having been able to do before. While others were shooting upstream at a large reflecting pool and fall color, Preston and I wandered downstream and we were both attracted by the gray rocks with the water lines and I was attracted to the reflection as well. This is cropped from the original; the top was just a little busy and untidy for me.
Any thoughts or suggestions on color, saturation, whatever - greatly appreciated!

20 commentsI think this is absolutely amazing Lon. Processing looks spot on to me..i love the array of reflected colors in the water, from light to dark, with the rock color flowing in the water completely setting this off..it has me downright mesmerized. And as Harley mentioned, there is enough at the top to keep me intrigued and wanting to explore further. Great!!
The sat and contrast looks good to me. Color wise its hard for me to see any issues without rocking the Color Balance sliders around. The BG looks a tiny bit of blue/cyan, but in the shade it would lean that way. So, all that stuff gets into preference or overall likes if you will. Regardless, it sure looks darn good and natural to me for what it's worth.....

OK, im kidding....but i like this much more than you do, it's got some great layers and thirds are very strong here. I like the reflections too.
I had fun here, too!
Well done, sir.
