Jefferson General Store

I haven't had a chance to take too many nature shots but I did take this image around Thanksgiving and entered it into the Full Story Photography Contest put on by National Geographic and Nikon. Naturally, it was not a finalist but I still like it. It was my first attempt at light painting at night. And if you would like to know my story pitch here it is...

Far beyond the city lights of downtown Dallas the old riverport town of Jefferson, Texas lay dormant. It’s streets of red brick wait for the roaring sound of Harleys to break the silence and meandering antiquers to collect treasures of times long past. In the dark of night, store lights and neon signs illuminate the nostalgic Jefferson General Store and ghost-walkers buy hot chocolate to warm their chilled bones. Romantic charm will continue to attract visitors to come and go from Jefferson but the legends and stories of the town’s history will never leave.

Reminds me of a town my wife and I visited in Tennessee, Bell Buckle. Good to see places like this preserved. Nice job on the light painting.

Great colors and good job on painting it too. I like this a lot. The image alone tells a great story.

A great first effort! I like the way you got down low so you could shoot "up." It's a very nice image and well executed. There are just as many photo opportunities at night as there are in the daytime, but only the adventurous seem to go look for them.
