Bright Angel Point, North Rim GCNP
This is from my last morning on the north rim of GCNP November 1. My A700 died the night before but I had my old faithful M7 and several rolls of film as a backup. Getting the slides processed was impossible locally even in a town as big as Houston so I had to revert to Fuji mailers. The service was pretty good although the mailers were more than double the cost of six or seven years ago.
My next challenge was to get the slides scanned. I have a perfectly fine Nikon LS 4000 but despite all kinds of effort I cannot get my Windows 7 PC to recognize it. I finally gave up and had to fire up my old XP machine to run the scanner. In processing I didn't have all the ACR tools to work with and the original capture was way too blue, even for Velvia. I forgot about the need for filters but I think this is pretty close to what I saw. At least the conditions were worth the hassle and I think I have quite a few good frames. Of course the demise of the A700 forced

me buy a new A77 which I really wish I had picked up before my trip. Oh well, good reason to go back. All comments welcome. >=))>

In the larger view, I would suggest a little less sharpening since to my view the rock face starts to become the focus instead of the river of fog; there becomes a sort of competition for attention.

Seriously, i have no problem with strong colorcasts in many cases. This isnt one of them. Stick a 20-30 (PS) warming filter on this and it will be good to go. Fabulous, actually.

Stunning scene from the GC - the "river of fog" as John eluded too is almost unique and certainly adds a wonderful element to this grand view.
As with Stan and others, the purple/blue is a bit too much for my taste. Also, I think the larger version is getting a little noisy, and/or perhaps over sharpened as John also mentioned.
I think this is a fantastic landscape image, just could use a little tweaking.

A killer image.
