A very happy new year to all of you!

An image from earlier this summer taken well after sundown. I came a group of waxwings feeding actively on bugs. I prefocused on a twig they seemed to like and got one to sit down followed by the second for an instant and then both were off. Their poses look like they were giving each other the silent treatment.

Techs: 1D3/600IS+1.4X, F5.6@1/50s, ISO1000.

Larger version also presented.

Thanks for looking. :wavey:

Happy New Year to you too Govind, I like the comp and colors a lot. It seems you needed more depth of field to get the bird on the left tack sharp but looking at your techs it seems that you were pretty maxed out already, so I'll just say very well done given the conditions. :toast:

Gorgeous composition. The bird on the left look a bit soft in the larger version. Still a lovely capture though.

verry nice :jump: defiinitely looks like a stalemate to me! The green is especially complementary to the coloration of the two.

Wonderful shot of these elegant birds! It's perfect, and they are both in such great focus, so clear and and with great colors.

I love this comp, Govind. really beautiful against that bg. it's too bad the left bird isn't sharp too, but like Nate notes, probably not possible in the low light. I'd probably clone the branch coming out of the right bird's head.

Attractive shot and a great composition and way the birds are perched. If it were mine, I would have considered cloning out the little branch-end sticking out of the right bird's head .. Other than that, fine and wishing you a happy new year as well ! Hans

Nice comp Govind. 1/50s is slow even for a static shot and this looks nice.

I really like the colors and the graphic look of the branches, Govind. The spider web is a nice touch too.

Interesting composition. Don't know how you may feel about PP, but I'd suggest cloning or otherwise removing the portion of the twig that extends from the head of the waxwing on the right.

Thanks for all your comments. I would have liked more DOF also in this image to get both the waxwings sharp. With low light and fast action, I felt prefocusing and shooting wide open gave me the best chance of getting a sharp subject. The left waxwing was a bonus - it landed just as I was about take the image. Truth be told, I am surprised the entire image came as sharp as it did.

Hans, John: I did think about cloning the twig off, but didn't quite go through with it. Maybe I will try it after all.

Love this shot! It's great how they are looking opposite directions! I also love the simple bg and overall colour scheme. The spider web is slightly distracting to me, but that would be an easy fix if you decided to remove it. Great work here!
