Yesterday morning I was setup at San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary, Irvine, CA to shoot some White Pelicans when I notice some activity to my right. I swung around and grabbed this shot of a Great White Egret coming at me. To bad I was shooting through the reeds but I still like the shot and I am surprised that I got focus. I do like shooting with my 5d Mark iii.

Well taken! IMHO for a quick shot this is very good, focus seems right on as does exposure. I like the wing position. Actually even for a set up shot this is very good. Thanks for sharing. did you get any pelican shots?

Don't know much about avian photography, but I know what I like; and I like this!

Unusual and very effective - I like this unique composition with head-on flight position and blurry vertical lines of the grass.

cool! I like the head-on approach with a nice little head turn to make the eye visible. I think all the reeds really add to this (maybe I could do without some of the heavier fg ones, but not a big deal, as the others add so much).

Skip,
Great shot! Presume you got good Cedar Waxwings this morning that we will see soon?

A very different pose from what we usually see, Harry. You did a great job getting the egret sharp with all the vegetation. You even got the entire spread wings. :toast:

Very nice, Skip. What makes this work especially well for me is the very good light under the wings. Interesting setting, too.

Amazing shot. Focus is right on. Nice head turn that show the bill at an angle rather than head on.
