Male Redbellied

It's woodpecker season and a chunk of beef fat is bringing in some of the bigger woodpeckers in the area. I can't resist sitting out there taking photos of these guys no matter how many I already have. It seems that Redbellied are a little more tolerant than the Hairy, and Hairy are more tolerant than Pileated. I'd like to get a few reasonable photos of the latter this season.

EOS 1D
1/1250 f8
400 w/1.4 extender
fill flash
ISO 250

C&C appreciated

Thanks

Nice shot Jerry. Reds look a little strong and some more room on the bottom would help.

nice, Jerry--I like the extended tongue and the nice lichens on the perch too. details look good too. I agree about a bit more room on the bottom.

Nice background for this subject. As has been said, I would prefer just a bit more space at the bottom.

Very nice shot, Jerry. Beautiful details and smooth BG. It's a bird that I do not know and it's always informative to learn. I agree with a bit more room at the bottom and I find myself cutting it close with woodpeckers hanging on a tree. Perhaps it's the way they use the tail to prop up the body and the way the tail merges with the tree.

Don't know if I'd really change anything...the red does look a little too orange, maybe that can be fixed?
