Verdin (Auriparus flaviceps)

Place: Water Ranch, Gilbert, AZ
Date: December 20, 2012 3:29 pm
Equipment: Nikon D300, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8 & TC20E III (2x), G1325, RRS BH-55, Sidekick
Exposure: ISO 400, aperture priority spot metered, 1/100th @ f/8
Not baited, taped or set-up
Raw, PS CS3 on Mac, 36% of frame

Taken on a walk-about at the Water Ranch with Brian Gatlin on an uncommon (for me) afternon visit. Luckily this actively feeding bird paused for an instant in just the right pose and light.

Honest critiques requested; all comments appreciated. Larger version provided as usual.

Richard,
It looks like he's posing for you. Could not wish for a better look. Great looking bird. Pretty sharp for such a deep crop. Nicely seen and captured.

nice, Rich. love the light, the look, the comp and setting, not to mention getting a Verdin sharp at 1/100. really nicely done. I haven't looked closely at all of my shots from this episode but mostly because the initial results looked pretty underwhelming, especially compared to this.

Love the bird's position and eye contact Rich. Nice to have the bird "hanging."

Neat! What a terrific pose! I rather like the framing from the two pieces of wood as well.

Excellent timing. I like how the bird is hanging there it looks like it's about to move after quickly checking out that photographer. All that well frozen at 1/100 sec.
