Castle Rock Ablaze

I shared an intense sunset this past weekend with Andrew Aveley on the beach of Brenton-on-Sea. This is the infamous Castle Rock viewed in the amazing light we witnessed. I photographed this while my camera and I were incessantly pelted with rain and lightning was flashing overhead.

I have been quiet in Landscapes as I really have not had much in the way of good landscape expeditions this year (wildlife took up all of my free time, tsk tsk )

I hope you had a lovely Christmas and will have a fun celebration on New Year's Eve. :toast:

Fantastic light, Morkel! I know the place, since I am from South Africa myself  The seagull perched on the rock is a really nice touch. I also love the distant mountains on the right hand side. Nice work!

Wonderful image Morkel. The beautiful sky color reflecting in the water pools is really nice and the bird is an added touch.

Your wildlife images have been amazing this year. I hope to see more in 2013!

Morkel,

Fabulous color and light throughout - beautiful in fact. I know so tempting to want to include it all - both the tidal area and sky, but for me the comp tears me between wanting to enjoy the sky (and the awesome clouds on the left,) but also wanting to see more of the reflected light and color in the foreground. Would love to see more down there. Can't complain too much though, it's still a beautiful coastal image.

Just my .02 - but if you're going to have the big © right in the middle of the large, I personally would reduce the opacity a bit - let the viewer enjoy the scene. Your copyright in the UR works perfectly. But to each our own, I completely understand why it's done. NP.

The lighting is truly amazing and the gentle reflections in the foreground puddles helps reduce the competition between the sky and foreground. The gull on the rocks is a great addition. Hope you have a good 2013.

Very special light and conditions. Really like how you held the texture in the rock so well. Makes for a strong visual anchor for the overall balance.
