There were lot of these around at Ridgefield Wednesday, but they had a habit of being behind something. This one posed a long time and I moved the car three or four times looking for an opening in the blackberries. There was a better opening, but I liked the grooming action here.

1DIV, 500mm ISL + 1.4TC, BLUBB support, f8, 1/500, , Av mode with +2/3 compensation (a mistake corrected in ACR), iso 640. Cropped to 9.25MP.

I always appreciate your comments and criticisms.

Thanks for looking,

Incredible feather detail in the large version. I agree with you about sparrows, seems like they are always deep in a tangle of thickets. They do come out into the open for brief periods but more times than not some part of them is behind an annoying branch. Is he preening his tail feathers?

love this pose and the superb detail, Dennis. I also really like the way that it is framed within its habitat. I like this shot very much.

Tangles, hard light, and a great photo. Just have to get him out of the brush and cooperate.

Your DOF captured the sweet spot allowing all the detail necessary to make this shot and make it so sharp! The thorns in its environment are nice to see, too. They appear to be something the bird has contended with very well. Actually tells a story, IMO! Very well done and a beautiful image of this sparrow. I like it a lot!
