It was mostly cloudy when I made this last month, with the sun breaking through at times.. So the Passion Butterfly passed my way, and successfully brightened up my day:cool:
F/10, 1/800th, IO 640, 1D M3, Canon 300mm f/2.8 + Kenko 2x ext @ 10:01 and natural light - Rare to see this one in December here.
The changing leaves are from a myrtle tree.

Very nice, Howard. The complimentary colors between the plant and the butterfly, along with the terrific background really make this shot for me. You have also done a great job in capturing and presenting the texture in the wings and the leaves. Again, they compliment each other so well. I also like that I see no noise in this image. Great capture, excellent processing and it's good the day was saved by this creature!

Hi Howard, nice to have you back posting again. Excellent first post for the new year. Great job with the perspective, plane of focus and the light. I like the perfect view of the beautiful wings against the clean bg, and the butterfly could not be any sharper. :toast:

Such a wonderful combination of colors in this image, Howard. The blue background makes such a nice contrast with the color of the leaves and butterfly. Very nice lighting and good focus.

Howard: Nice catch. We have fritilary caterpillars on our passion vines but haven't seen an adult in some time. Nice light and really good plane of focus management.>=))>

The soft light really lets the colors in the bf stand out. Welcome back and congrats on your near miss for the Nature Conservancy, one of my favorite organizations.
