I just finished processing this one. I took it yesterday morning in the Jura mountains. i'm not really sure about this one. I really have a hard time coming up with a decent composition when I'm shooting in the forest. I really did like the mood and the color contrast but didn't find a comp that really pleases me for 100%. So I would like to know what you think about this one.

Nikon D700, f8, 1/2seconds, iso500, polarizer

I like this a lot for exactly the reasons you mention. You have the younger saplings in the foreground clearly differentiated from the older trees in the background by both great color and sharpness, and to my view, there seems to be a definite separation between the two -- foreground and background.

The only minor thing I would report in the interpretation my mind makes of it, is that it does seem to be leaning towards the right. While analysis tells me that it is on the side of a hill and that comparing the older trees with the saplings, the saplings are clearly leaning right relatively, and while the three trees on the extreme right are straight vertically, the big ones on the left tend to contribute to my perception of leaning.

You do not mention the focal length of the lens you used, and if it is a wide angle or super wide angle, there could be some distortion going on on the left looking upward. If you see what I'm saying, you might want to consider using a transform to pull the left side a bit straighter and see how that affects the perception of it.

But in any case, I really like it a lot.

John, thanks for your feedback and your thoughts on this one. I used the 24-70mm/f2.8 @35mm.

Bill I find this to be a wonderful shot with nice composition. I really like how the tree trunks progressively fad back into the fog. Good job! :toast:

This is really nice Bill. A fantastic mood you captured here. The foreground small trees and leaves stand out so nice against the soft and foggy background. The blue tones in the fog add such a nice mysterious feel. I like this alot! :toast:

Hauntingly beautiful. Excellent luminosity from the fog and the colors are excellent. I could see a burning of the left and right sides to reduce their pull a little, or possibly cropping? A stunning image! :toast:

Very special light and color here. Could maybe see pulling some blue out of the reds heighten the color contrast just a bit.

The light and atmosphere are well captured but the comp leaves me wanting more. The lines of the saplings all go right and I keep wanting to see where these lines lead.
