A very happy New Year to everyone!! :toast:

I've kept you in suspense for long enough - time to continue with the lion kill images (though some may have seen this one).

I will do some detailed blog posts in the near future about this amazing experience. The setting and time of day all came together.

The lionesses lay prone on the open plain, waiting for their chance.
It also helped that the eland for some reason just couldn't see the lions...even when they got close. This photo will give you an idea what I mean...

This is one of my own "favourite" shots from 2012. You can see my blog post with my selection and description of each image HERE. Would love for you to take a look and drop me a comment about which one(s) you prefer and why...

Techs:
Nikon D3s with Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II
f5.6 @ 1/800 SS @ ISO-2000
EV +0.3

This is a slight crop from full frame...

Wow Morkel! I am always amazed at your images, but this one is uber amazing. Not only did you get an incredible image of the lion stalking the eland, but your DOF choice is very artistic and really makes the image a absolute stunner. As for your "favourite" shots from 2012 - I can't possibly pick a favorite as they are all wonderful images. I can't wait to see your 2013 images. :toast:

Morkel, this one I like a lot. Great tension here and both your timing and the chosen DOF are just right. Looking forward to the next image in this series.

Great shot Morkel, quite a story being told here. As for your favorite images of the year, how would one ever choose? Congrats on the beautiful new baby boy!

You've really nailed this one, Morkel! Just can't imagine why the eland can't see the lioness lying right out in the open! Bizarre!
