Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted January 6, 2013157 views9 comments
It's been another grey dull day outside in East Tennessee. Another excuse to practice my macros in the kitchen!

Very nice. I really like the reflections. How about a couple of inches off of the left side?

very nice, indeed. I agree w/ Jerry about a crop. I know, it would take some work, but it would be IMO much better w/o the halos under the shell reflections.

I like the lighting and dark bg, Richard. I am unsure about the shell in the center blocking the view of shell in the back, and I also think that the comp feels unbalanced with the shells "moving" out of the frame, but I don't shoot still life studio images, so take what I say with a large grain of salt. I do like seeing the new subject/genre here.

I agree with Scott that is nice to see some new subjects in the macro gallery. Shells can be so beautiful and are certainly worth taking close-ups of. It inspires me to find some shells we have in our attic and give it a go. Nice combination of shells and I like the variety of textures and colors. Making this a mirror image adds interest. The direction of the open clam shell makes it feel like the right side is the "front" of the image. . . so to me, the right side is the one that could use more space and less space on the left side if you didn't want the shells centered.

Interesting still Richard, the black setting with reflection works well!

I think, the clam is clapping for it's supper. The lighting, colors, and reflection are great. Add me to the crew wanting less darkness on the left.

Thanks Elizabeth. It's sitting on a piece of glass from a picture frame with a black cloth behind and under it. I had an off camera flash on the right and a reflector on the left. I had to use a Rogue Flashbender to block the light from hitting the cloth. I think if I was to do it again I would use a mirror instead of glass.
