Wind From the West

Just going through my best of 2012, many of which are yet to make it to NPN and the web. Lake Tekapo is usually presented in its tranquil guise but I saw a more dramatic side on a recent visit.

Top quality work. Beautiful colors in sky and water with foreground action. Great location. You couldn't ask for any better.

Yes, Kah Kit, I love the wild feel to this one too. I really like how the left hand boulder balances the scene. A dynamic and compelling image!

Awesome shot - perfect SS and the comp is very compelling with the sunset clouds and grand vista in the distance. I really do miss the 2 weeks I got to spend in NZ in 2008. My one nit is that the horizon to the left looks a little saturated with blues, especially in comparison to the rest of the mountain range. thanks for sharing.

I like the perspective, the light, and the color. The foreground rock really anchors the scene. The rock on the left merges across the horizon line which is usually a no no, but I like it for the repeating shape of the mountains.

Love the light and water action, but I agree with Navin that the blues seem a bit over-saturated.

Nice one, KK! I love the surf action and the colors are sweet. Even the big fg rock fits in!

Beautiful comp Kah Kit. The flow and spray in the foreground feels like it's coming out of my monitor. The cyan sky on the right seems like it could be a bit too saturated and un-natural, the rest of the sky looks fine. It's nice to see your new work and look forward to what is in store.

I've never been to your part of the world (alas) but this photo speaks eloquently of a beautiful yet strange place quite outside my experience. I love the drama of it and am glad you presented something other than what you describe as rhe tranquil "norm" for images. If I may make a suggestion--I don't know if this would have been possible and it is only my personal taste, not a technical criticism--I'd have liked to see the water in the foreground a bit silkier. Just a bit--not so much as to lose the dramatic effect you so successfully went for.

This has a lot of impact. I think the larger FG rocks anchor the image. Love the blue sky.

The foreground really does portray a feeling of power and the sky adds a lot of interest. I like the way the clouds mimic the action of the waves. Very fine image.

Incredible drama and motion. Love the warm tones in the one foreground rock. One can truly sense the wind and spray that you must have experienced. The larger image of course really brings this out. Fantastic.

The clouds and water are so dynamic and the far snowing peaks anchor the scene. Wonderful!

What stands out for me the most is the warm color of the right rock making a pleasing combination with the blue of the lake and sky.
