This is a very nice image. The pose allows enough of a look at the head to make it work. I always like to catch them while they are not quite so buried in the flower, but sometimes it doesn't work out that way. My suggestions for this image would be to selectively tone down the reds in the flowers. Red seems to be a channel that digital easily gets too hot and loses detail. I would also tone down or clone out the leaves at the very bottom of the image. Lastly I would see about selectively brightening up the blacks in the head just a touch. All worth it for an excellent capture.

Hi Jefferson:

I like the removal of the leaves at the bottom of the frame. I think that helped. Maybe not quite so far with the reds? Halfway from the first post to the second might feel OK. Nice work.

Cleanup on repost is nice...I would still like to see a little lightening of the dark part of the head. The comp and pose are very nice. Sharon

Nice, Jefferson. Don't know if it was the flash or bright sunlight, but the reds in the flowers are a bit overpowering for my taste.

Hi Jefferson:
I think the 3rd version is the best of the group. When I process really bright red flowers I will often desaturate the reds to bring them back in gamut with the other colors. Then if needed, I will decrease their luminance. (I'm doing this against the RAW file in LightRoom Develop). I think it tends to help. You have a fine image and I think the extra work processing made it even better.

What a unique and colorful hummer. I have never heard of this hummer. Except the overblown flowers and bottom leaves which you can clone out, I like the original post, nice job in getting this difficult shot.

Very beautiful image. Excellent pose and moment as captured. Your reworked version looks very good. Looks like you had to contend with some harsh lighting. :toast:
