Your use of the curve in the stem shows your mastery of composition. These are tough to shoot, I agree. Great color, light, and the gradient background.

Ian: One of if not the finest glad portrait I've seen here in a long time. Wonderful movement through the frame and excellent color rendition. Most excellent. >=))>

Well you sure gave it lots of loving treatment even if they are not a favorite of yours. (Actually, not one of my favorites either. . . remind me too much of funeral arrangements. ) Just a fantastic comp IMO. Love the curve and the way you have filled the frame. The lighting is great too with a slightly darker area in the empty space of the top right corner. Great job, Ian!

Ian:
Love it or not its a fabulous image. The placement of the curve in the frame is just perfect. I do like the gradient bg but wish it is not so dark. Also there seems to be a ripple artefact with the center at the RUC on my screen.

I like growing and shooting glads, but they are challenging because the flowers bloom sequentially from bottom to top, so you get unopened and/or spent flowers. You did very well here using the buds as a graceful form, and then to fill in the blank URC with the nice gradient. Really expertly accomplished, Ian. (Only nit: dust spot straight above the uppermost opened flower.)

Excellent on the glad! They are tough to get, but this is superb. I like the idea of the gradient in the BG, but it feels a bit heavy handed. A lighter shade and a longer fade would be my preference.

Terrific comp, detail, and color is masterfully enhanced by the use of graduated light. Wonderfully crafted.
