You Talkin' to Me?
by Rick Andrews
The winter of 2011 was very cold with tons of snow, so much in fact that many of the pronghorn left their normal habitat on the surrounding prairie and moved to the coulees right in the middle of town. This resulted in a combined herd of more than 100 animals that I saw daily as they foraged the windswept hillsides above one of our busy arterial roadways. Normally the pronghorn around here are quite wary and often all you see of them are their white rumps as they head for the horizon. But that winter they were surprisingly tolerant of us biped’s and I was able to get a few portraits like this juvenile male.
