Got this today at the back of my property here in Virginia. Again had to take from a distance, too skiddish. Wished I lived around a reserve wher they are accustomed to being around people, yet again it makes it more of a challenge..
C&C welcome.

Canon 7D, 100-400L @ 350mm, 1/2000sec, f/7.1, iso500, AP, partial metering, handheld, cropped away about 75% of image for this comp. Applied some noise reduction and lowered the brightness some.

Good details and a neat pose.. I like the near wing fully extended, and timing as it pulls away David.
Seems to have held up well, even with the hefty crop.
I've only had one session with the bald eagle, and like you it seemed to be always just out of reach.
The one instance it flew towards me I dropped the ball
Well done! :wavey:

You did well with the opportunity. Definitely does make a difference where you shoot these guys! I normally can't get close either...except around the Missouri River dams, where they can sometimes be ridiculously tame.

You caught an interesting pose. With the angle he took off, the back wing is largely obscured. Too bad. The blue in that sky sure feels electric. Even if was really that color and intensity, I would tone it down as it really competes with the eagle.

Nice detail in the feathers. I like the slight contact with the branch made with the right claw. I might have tried a crop that extended the branch at the bottom center out of the frame. That branch end caught my eye first. Nice image David. :toast:

Good exposure against that blue sky. A tough shot, but you caught the eye just right.

Thanks for the comments, the sky was a deep blue today, but I wnet and lighted it some to see what it looks like. I recropped so the branch merges with the bottom, I also tried to lighten the right wing some but to much shadow for the angle to pull much to pull enough detail that was there....thanks again!!
