I finally got some good light and overcame some operator problems, , to get this detailed look under the hood of my wife's Paphiopedilum. (5D3, 100mm macro L, 1/10s, f/16, iso 100, tripod, cable release and mirror lock up) Oh yeah, it's a 22 shot stack.

Mark,

A superb image, I like the comp, lighting, the color- in other words everything. I do have a question: Do you use a Macro Rail or do you manually take shots at each step to get your stack ?

William, glad you like this. I manually adjust the focus and at this magnification (nearly 1:1) those are very small adjustments even using f/16. That was the source of the operator problems.....getting a stack and finding out that there were a couple of soft regions where I didn't get overlapping focal planes.

Nice closer look at this amazing flower, Mark. I like the lighting in this and how it illuminates all the unique details "under the hood" of this flower. Great details from all your stacking. Some day I just may try stacking. . . Great job on this!

The operator did a good stack here in my opinion:) It's a treat to see all the detail & colors here! I do find it a bit tight compositionally as it strikes me top heavy...for some reason I keep thinking it would have been nice to see a tad more below, or perhaps just a small crop off the top would balance a little more. Still the highlights at the very top would be sad to lose...

Most excellent, Mark ! Composition, lighting and detail are all first class in my view. Do you use a focus rail for this many images ?
