We Are Family

Observing a herd of elephants is beautiful and endearing...how they communicate, loving, helpful and protective - yet at the same time towards outsiders (animal or human) showing strength and power, solely for the protection of their family...They know they are vulnerable, man is their biggest enemy. So you have to keep your distance and be very careful around them, but when you do that, there may well be acceptance and they will just continue with their daily chores...

The first thing I like about this shot is the orientation of the subjects, which I think is quite creative and makes for a more compelling image. I also love the colour, shapes and textures, and the way you’ve captured the bond between Mom and the little one. Over all I think this is a great shot Ingrid.

This is gorgeous Ingrid! I love the creative diagonal framing; did you shoot it like that or crop afterwards? If done in the field I applaud your quick thinking. Details, color and intimate composition are other aspects that make this a true winner. Well done! :toast:

Thanks for the nice comments!
@Vincent: this is not a crop and taken on the spot (and in the field) exactly as is...thank you

Ingrid, nice choice to tilt it. As others have mentioned, it's very effective in conveying a bit of an abstract look.

My thoughts echo Vincents regarding the quick thinking to see this as a diagonal composition. Thumbs up!

Very creative and quick thinking then Ingrid:wink: . The only thing that would have made this even better I think is a visible eyeball of the right ellie too. A stunning portrait either way and honestly I thought this would have received many more views and comments by now.

A soulful image, the eye seems sad. Very nice organic curves and textures. Vincent is right, deserves more "wows". :toast:

I admire the picture for all the reasons mentioned here! After having many looks at it,IMHO not sure if it has got the best cut.

Ingrid: beautiful, dramatic and evocative. I love the textures, colours, angles and creativity. I don't believe I can comment on possible ways to improve the image...it's simply very unique and powerful as presented.

Wonderful image, Ingrid. It communicates the warmth that you the photographer obviously set out to portray, and also the communication of power, security, and love from mother to offspring.

Excellent image! The composition is creative and a pleasure to view, the lines and textures are well exposed and presented. Love the details; the eyes and wiskers. :toast:
