Actually, from some research:

a White-headed Prominent Moth caterpillar. Couldn't fit all that in the Title.

Looking for feedback on the crop, please. I think I may have been concentrating on the wrong end??

Nikon D300; 300mm; f9 @ 1/800; ISO 320; HH.

All comments and suggestions welcome.

I would crop some off the bottom. I like the shot and the insect eaten leaf next to the caterpillar.

Wow, love the sharp focus and interesting details on this caterpillar, Tom! The chewed on leaf adds a nice storytelling element. I think a crop up from the bottom would be helpful, to maybe just below the brown spot on the center stem of the leaf the caterpillar is on. That would eliminate most of the OOF leaf at the bottom center as well as help focus more attention on the caterpillar.

Very nice capture, Tom. Excellent job of aligning the plane of focus and getting the entire CP nice and sharp against the nice clean colorful bg. As for which end is which, I can't help you there.

Tom ...I like this one for the diagonal, and the contrasting colors between the leaves and the caterpillar. The bg is a killer too ...one small nit ..could be my monitor ..the whites look a tad bit hot on my pc...well done

I like how he is looking up at the chewed part of the leaf! I also would recommend cropping some off of the bottom.

Hi Tom :wavey: like scott said, "excellent job of aligning the plane of focus" the chewed leaf and the fine diagonal lines and the sharp detail make this an excellent presentation. agree that a slight crop would make this image even better
