Last Dahlia

by Carol Nichols

This Dahlia was the last flower in the garden at the end of the season. This is my third version of this beauty. I have really milked this one! The other two versions can been seen in the Photo Art Gallery here.

Critiques and comments are very welcome and appreciated. Thanks for looking!

The inside petals are beautiful. I would consider cropping all the way to just inside the outer petals and letting the flower fill the scene. IMO, that would throw all the attention to the center and the curled petals.
Or, maybe better, just increase the blacks, so the BG goes dark. Then a crop close to the flower . :wavey:

Lucy, thanks for your comment. You can see a close crop with a dark background in the Photo Art Gallery post that I linked to above. The repost in that link is just what you suggested.

Beautiful colors and details in this flower, Carol. My suggestions were going to be almost exactly the same as Lucy's. I then visited your repost in the Photo Art gallery. Wow! That is stunning! I must say that one makes more of an impact and shows off all the beauty of this flower. You should post that one in the flora gallery at some point.

Carol, like Carolyn, I prefer the versions you posted in PA. They are quite stunning. In all of the versions, I would dodge the yellow center. Thanks for sharing and posting the link to the PA versions.

Carol: I really like the glow this gets from the lighting and the overall color palette. A slightly tighter crop would suit me a little better. >=))>

Perfect isolation of the flower, Carol, with your choice of a centred comp seeming to me absolutely right. The leaves R of centre just distract the eye a little - maybe they could be toned down ? A lovely image whatever.
