At least that's my call. Quite a large crop, but it's a first for me and it seems to have held up pretty well. The odd textureless look in the perch is natural-I went back to the RAW file and it looks the same there.

1DIV, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC on beanbag. f7.1, 1/2500, iso 400, manual exposure. Cropped to 4 MP. Normal processing in CS5. Taken January 17th at 11:40 am at Bosque del Apache NWR.

Your comments and criticisms are most appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

This is a very nice picture! To bad his whole tail isn't showing, but you still pulled it off!

Very nice, like the pose of the sparrow and the BG. Very sharp with good color also. Hope to get shots of this one myself this year. Thanks for sharing gives me a goal to shoot for.

great looking bird and a beautiful setting, Dennis, and a pretty good find for Bosque too, I think. personally I'd play with the comp a little, maybe less on top and more to the left.

Now THAT'S how to do a large crop! Beautiful markings on this bird! I think I would have looked at possibly taking a little off of the right hand side making a bit more of a vertical framing. But this is an amazing shot as it sits.

Very nice shot of the sparrow in its habitat. I like the head turn and nice catch light. The detail is good and the background colors are nicely complementary. Good job. :toast:

I would.nt have known this was a large crop Dennis the detail looks really good. I like these habitat shots and it looks as though it's not easy to get a clear shot - so well done on that. A agree with Brian about the crop, would a more vertical crop look better? Graham

Yes, White-throated Sparrow. This is primarily an eastern species but shows up regularly in flocks of White-crowned Sparrows in many places in the west.

I like the colors here and the natural setting. I'd try less of a square crop as others have suggested.

Very nicely captured Dennis. I haven't shot one and this example is great with his head turn and the complimentary habitat. :toast: :toast: :toast:

Real nice capture of this WTSp! Nice warm colors. I'd like to see more of a vertical, cropping off that twig in the ULH corner and a little more off the R side. Great head turn and good details. Sharon
