Newborn Bison

This is from a trip to Yellowstone right after the roads open in the spring. The herd was on the move from the geyser area down to Madison when this newborn had to take a well deserved nap right at the height of a storm. The mother originally lay right next to it, but moved off a bit to feed after 20 minutes or so. No worries about safety as a snarly ranger had traffic blocked and re-routed.

Little fella looks all tuckered out. It was a bold decision to place the calf smack in the centre but I think you made a good call Brad, the curved double line makes the composition work just fine. Hope you got some photos of the herd on the move.

reminds me of the 18-mo old grandchild of a friend. When he gets tired, no matter WHERE he is, he lays right down and goes to sleep - in the yard, in a doorway, playing in the community sandbox.
This little guy looks wiped out. Glad the rangers protected him and also glad you got this imsge.

I guess young animals like young children are oblivious to the dangers around them. Thanks goodness he was well protected by his mother and the park ranger. How wonderful that he/she laid down right on the yellow lines. That really adds to the image. I agree with Verdon that maybe a bit of a crop off the bottom might be nice, but I like the bison centered as you have it very much too.

What a moment! Usually I would say "pity about the road" but I think it adds a lot to the story of this image, Brad.
Very cute. Looking forward to more...
(presume the little fella got up eventually and pushed on?)

Great shot. I ditto the remarks on cropping a slice off the bottom. And I wish that curve on the left was not cut. The little curve in the urc needs to go though.
