Frost Falls

One of the many, many waterfalls that I shot in Iceland last year when I was scouting for locations for our new Iceland tour. It was cold, it had just been snowing, and everything was very icy and slippery. The spray from the waterfall made it very hard to get a good shot, especially since I had to shoot with a relatively small aperture to get the depth of field I needed - water drops on the lens showed up really fast. I ended up covering the lens and waiting for what seemed like eternity for the wind to change directions, and then I quickly took a few exposures.

I don't remember when I've seen a water (in all three forms no less) look this good. The texture and tone are exquisite. The dark walls and ominous clouds contrast beautifully.

I agree the tones are real nice--and a great subject! The snow patch in the lrhc pulls my eye a bit, a minor nit tho. :wavey:

This is a killer shot Marsel. I love how it looks B&W at first, but then the subtle hints of color are revealed. Also, excellent use of dark tone to build mystery. I'm glad you didn't try to show all the shadow tone, resulting in a flat image. Your image is strong, and mysterious -- exactly what I look for with photography. No nits from me.

I'm always amazed at the exemplary light you bring to every image. It's one thing to compose well in the field, but developing images to this level also takes a very good eye. You've got it. This looks great!

I had to look more closely to see this was not a black and white. This one is as rich as dark chocolate, Marsel! Great range of tones, excellent comp, and a touch of drama in the sky. :toast:

A strong, convincing and creative composition to me, Marsel. There is just the right amount of texture in the water and snow to draw my attention, and the subtle colors just make the difference for me. Great work in my opinion.
