My Leila

Well, since a few dog photos have been posted - 3 Labs in a row! - I decided to post a pic of my canine love, Leila, a German Shepherd Dog, to balance things out a bit.

I was never a big dog person, but life brought them to me, and now I'm very much a fan of this breed. She is incredibly smart. I once threw a stick for her, which broke into two pieces upon hitting the ground. She assessed the situation for a few seconds, picked up first one, then the other, and brought both halves back to me... and she was only 4 months old!

They are also great guard dogs. We live on a big property in the middle of the woods, and I am alone here during the day. With protectors like this, though, there is no feeling vulnerable.

We have a bit of a zoo - 2 German Shepherds, 5 cats and Toy Poodle. It somehow all works.

Leila is going to be bred in the next couple months, so maybe I'll be posting a Leila-puppy picture this summer!

Leila is a very pretty dog, Rebecka, and your portrait of her, including the way she is posed against the nice bg, is expertly done. If you don't do pet portaits professionally, you certainly should. I can see this image gracing a wall or sitting in a frame on a dresser.

Thank you so much for the nice words, Scott. I actually do dog photography for a living, which amused the locals to no end in Kenya. I don't really think they actually believed me. It also gave them belly laughs when I explained that we buy special food in cans for dogs in our supermarkets! That was one of my most fun conversations ever.

Very well done and I can see why you do it for a living. Can't wait to see the puppy images.

What!!! A Shepherd in the middle of Lab week? I have to say, she's a beautiful dog. My wife keeps telling me that we need to get a Shepherd and train him/her as an assist dog, or some variety of companion dog so that she can take him/her to nursing homes or hospitals for visits. The last time she had an idea like that I ended up photographing the animals at a shelter for two years before we moved. When she retires I'm sure there will be another 4 legged family member.

Fantistic portrait. Look into her eyes and you just know that she has a question.

Terrific use of light here, and I think you caught the dog's personality well. I also like the way you shot across rather than down on the dog. Very well thought through.

Beautiful dog and beautiful image! Great job at capturing the personality in the photo. You must have happy clients.

I grew up with German Shepherds and always like to say hi to one. A good friend has one and I dog sit for her dog on a regular basis, so I get my German Shepherd fix.
