Barn Owl
by Ron Dudley
This winter has been very difficult for our Barn Owls so they hunted during daylight for a few weeks. One disabled bird was rescued near Antelope Island and turned over to rehab - it had a frostbitten face but was able to be released into the wild again after a few days. Many of them were almost constantly shivering when perched. This owl has ice clumped on its feet.
7D, 1/2000, f/6.3, ISO 500, 500 f/4, 1.4 tc, shot from pickup window on 1/12/13, cropped to 82% of original image, exposure adjustment, sharpening to bird, added very narrow strip of canvas at right for comp (wing not clipped), no additional processing or adjustments, natural light, no bait, no decoy, not set up or called in

Sad about the harsh winter; hope most birds make it ok.
