Another Take-off

This is one of the most dynamic poses I managed to capture on a take-off run (there's one I like better, but there's a bunch of other stuff cluttering the image and I'm not sure I can do anything about it).

1DIV, 500mm f4 ISL +1.4TC, Black Widow on RRS legs, f7.1, 1/2500, iso 640, manual exposure. Normal processing in CS5. Cropped to about 10MP to eliminate distracting elements. Taken at 8:17 am on January 20th.

Your comments and criticisms are most appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Not much to critique here, Dennis. Its probably one of the best takeoff moments I've seen, one leg airborne and the rest getting ready to follow. It's amazing how these big birds achieve flight. I like the comp as well.

Like the water splash and the eye (and catchlight) stands out in the larger photo. For me -- I would take some off the top just to see what it might look like

Great capture of the action! Excellent detail shows up in the larger version. Nice bg.

This image is a bit tough to comment on for me personally. I'm torn between really liking and appreciating the takeoff capture of the crane, but probably equally disappointed in the darker colors of the water and colors in the upperhalf of the BG. Just my opinion though and others may not agree, I just feel the BG darker colors don't support or enhance the detail and action of the bird. I don't know if you use LR, but it has sliders in the "Tone Curve" section that may help in adjusting the darks and shadows to a brighter point.

Very good use of the early morning light Dennis. I especially like that water action at the feet, and the great pose/POV.
A must see large to appreciate the excellent quality and details :wavey:

I can feel him laboring to take off here Dennis, I might crop a little closer here, particularly taking some off the top. :toast:

I like the action Dennis.. I do agree with Nate about a closer crop would make it better, but I'm really in the same arena with Craig. I think brightening this up a notch would make it more dynamic.

The take-off action makes the shot for me, Dennis.
