Burning bushes certainly live up to their name in the fall with their brillant red coloring. For this shot, I isolated one branch from a bush against a background of OOF Burning bushes.

Canon Rebel T1i. 180mm macro lens. F/5 fpr 1/30 sec. ISO 400. Tripod mounted, natural lighting with some backlighting.

I love the way you did this. The red on red is quite effective. Too bad, the leaves in front were scarred........Ah, but, then, that is nature....how you find it :wavey: They do look like they would be fairly easy to heal........

Thanks, Lucy, for your comments. Yes, the leaves are fairly scarred but I decided to leave them this way. To me it added a little interest and variety to this simple image. See what others think.

I love the red leaves on the red bg! If it were mine I would remove the scars from the leaves.

Ok, here is a "scarless" version. I actually do think I like this better. Thanks for the suggestions.

Carolyn, I would have removed the scars as well and since you reposted a scarless version I think the image is improved. I like the red BG and the focus on one leaf. Well done. :toast:

The red on red works very well and you did a great job of isolating this branch. I like the scarred leaves, because that's the reality of fall, when the insects have had the whole summer to munch.

I like the simplicity of this Carolyn. The shallow depth of focus is well used in this.

Nice job of removing the scars. Now I can enjoy the beautiful color and shape of the leaves without my eyes being distracted by the scars.

Effective, almost monochrome comp. Well conceived and executed.

Carolyn: I do like the cleaned up version but the original works better for me. I think the spots give it a more real feel. Superb BG. >=))>
