Life has sure gotten in the way lately. Sorry about my absence.
going through some old files and saw these. I have a terrible time trying to compose a half way decent shot of these trumpet plants. Let me know of what your thoughts are.

All comments and critique appreciated.

I think the multi-colored background adds some interest to this shot. This could have used a bit less exposure as parts of the flowers appear to be blown..

Robert:

I do like the colorful sprinkling of orange and green in the bg. As for the flowers, they do look a little blown. Also the focus seems to be on the forward leaf at the top rather than on the flower base. Did you use autofocus here as the camera can sometimes lock on the wrong spot.

Bob: I agree with you about the difficulty of shooting these large flowers. We have a bunch of them in our garden (one of my wife's favorites) and I have about zero images of them that I like. I very much like your BG and think it is a fine complement to the blooms. I think I would have shot this in portrait orientation and cropped to 4:5. I think you could actually do that with this capture. On my monitor the exposure on the flowers looks OK. >=))>

I agree with Bill's comments, but I think pulling the brightness back a bit would help also.

The positioning of the trumpets and the few sharp leaves at the top are very nice as are the oof colors in the background. I agree that parts of the trumpet on the right looks blown.

I like the mottled background to compliment these soft yellow flowers. Very beautiful.
