Savannah Style

Savannah is an old town, with even a few parts going back to it's founding in 1733. It has had it's share of battles and burnings, but it was saved a sacking from Sherman by surrendering instead of offering a hopeless defense. In the 1960s, Savannah had an epiphany and realized the value of its large historic section, with many old homes and buildings of the 18th and 19th century still intact, but desperately in need of restoration. That restoration began and is still ongoing; consequently the graceful in the city has emerged to brighten her aspect to citizen and tourist alike.

There are still pockets that retain the patina of unrestored age, this being one. As both a reminder of past living and past lives, it has a powerful pull.

Feel free to comment or critique, or both. Thanks for looking. Be sure to check the large image for detail. This was converted to B & W using NIK Silver Efex 4.0.

Hauntingly beautiful- and so sad. I'm curious how this image looked in color but the conversion to B&W is most fitting I think. I love the balance of the 2 windows, 2 doors and 2 shutters with the white wrought iron decorative bench in front to pull them together. Very effective image which really captures a critical period in Savannah's history. Well done.

This is a very interesting shot. It tells a story of the city's past while also telling one of its present. The symmetry is not something I would have expected but you do have it in the windows, the shutters and the wheels. The only thing I might have tried is to have the POV lower with the camera looking up toward the scene.

The toning makes this bit of history come to life, Phil. Very well done!

Cool image and scene. With the toning, it might be fun to play with a little Orton effect to make it look like a period image.

This is really nostalgic story telling photo. I believe that colored one with pastel colors also very nice. TFS.
