Storm Birds

As Superstorm Sandy was moving up the coast and abated somewhat where we were, the Pelicans came out. Usually, they skim the surface of the ocean, but the sea was still so violent that stayed up high.

Cool shot Margo! what drama you captured here. If you got a wider version, I would be curious to see it. IMO, the birds are a little too close to the top of the frame.

Thanks, Navin. That's what my husband initially said, too, but when I explained I did it on purpose, as I wanted to give the effect of the birds getting as far away from the spray as possible, he agreed. It is interesting that this image has gotten a lot of wonderful comments in our current exhibition at Through This Lens in Durham, NC (The Yin and Yang of the Outer Banks). That said, there are many who will undoubtedly agree with you. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

This is a cool shot Margo! I too had the same feeling as Navin when I first looked at this, but after knowing what you were after I think it works just fine...and does just as you intended.

Thanks, Nick. Many of us photographers live by the old saying, "You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time." ~ John Lydgate

The drama with the wave action as the pelicans are flying overhead is a work of beauty, Margo. Perfect timing. :toast:

Thank you, Ed. You are most kind! And I might mention that the lens needed a good ROR cleaning afterwards! As you can see from the wave action out there, the winds were still blowing furiously!

Take care,
