This photo was taken in July in the worst possible lighting conditions (full mid-day sun) with no lens filters or hood. I had to do some cleanup in Nik and I was sad to see that there was some camera shake. I had a terrible tripod last summer and I wasn't using it much. But I still like the pose and I love the curves and lighting of the flower. Thanks for looking. Comments welcome!

Anice shot Jess, think i would have lost the green parts of the flower as they are a little distracting, but still a very good shot.

Cheers

You do know how to find great colored backgrounds, Jess. Nice comp and perch for this little guy. Re the green area, I think I like the additional interest and color that provides but just my opinion. . . However, I do wish the focus was a bit sharper on the skipper. But as you said, it does have great curves and lighting.

Excellent comp, Jess. The white floral perch and blue/violet bg are great elements to go with the skipper. The skipper looks a little soft to me, which look may be exaggerated by the light.

Thank you for all the comments, everyone. I agree the skipper is not as sharp as I would have liked. Luckily, these little guys are common and I hope to get some new shots this summer.
I also struggled with whether or not to keep the green part of the flower, so it's nice to hear opinions on this. :)

Your comp and choice of background here are great. As you suggest, the bf does look a bit soft, but shooting at 300mm on a light weight tripod can do that. I could see the crop that Ian suggests, but I do like the green bits of flower and the curled petal at the edge.
