Nikon 5100 Nikkor 55-200 mm zoom lens f-5.6 ASA 1/400 ISO 200. The day was a bright sunny day which alowed for this photo to work out the snake was first on the bank and when he saw me he went into the water at first I had to wait til the mud settled to see hiim again and if you look closely in the middle of three plants you can see the pattern on his back he is coiled up on the bottom. The photo was taken in Clifton Texas not far from former President Bush's Ranch. It is the local swimming hole.

Local swimming hole for who? Wow, he is really hidden down there. I like to keep my ISO as low as possible all the time, so I'm thinking you could have lowered yours a bit, along with the shutter speed and f-stop to get a good exposure and don't believe a high shutter speed or depth of field was critical here. The green algae adds to the mystery of what's lurking on the bottom.

Ok, that is the stuff of nightmares, George!! The local swimming hole?!?! Yikes! After seeing that snake, another more minor concern would be swimming in water with that much algae. :frown: The waters' murkiness from the algae and mud do help camouflage this snake very well. . . a little too well. . .
