Uhhh...Mom...Mom!
Some times you run into a scene or situation that is just so amusing that you just gotta shoot. This one is not - by any means - "natural art", but it does combine a bit of a cute factor with a not insignificant dose of anthropomorphism - and I think it works. The thing that really makes this photo for me is that the cub really WAS doing exactly what it looks like in this photo - it WAS trying to get its mom's attention - it kept pawing mom until she finally stopped and turned. Of course, mom DID know we were there and couldn't have cared less. I wonder if she was thinking something like "you just noticed them NOW?"
Oh, and BTW...I KNOW I cut just a BIT of mom off...
MIA in March: Just an FYI that I will be missing in action for most of March. I have a number of speaking engagements coming up (bpth on photography and on conservation issues, and in various locations in North America), some media events, and one photo tour (Owls of Manitoba). So...I'll be nowhere near my desk for the next month or so. So won't be posting much - if anything - until April. Sorry...and I hope everyone has a great month...
Subject: Grizzly cub (
Urus arctos) trying to get mom's attention
Location:Great Bear Rainforest, BC, Canada
Camera: Nikon D4
Lens: Nikkor 400mm f2.8 VRII lens - hand-held from floating zodiac. VR on and in "Normal" mode.

BTW: What may appear to some as "poise" on the cubs face are just droplets of water...both bears are SOAKING wet...
Like almost always, additional details about the image (including processing details) available here:
