First Sunlight

I caught up with this buck about an hour after sunrise at the local nature preserve. The sun had just cleared the tree line and was starting to warm things up. Still lots of dew on the grass. I liked this image as something a little different. Not a lot of detail on the deer but the backlighting created a nice mood as he came from behind the tree. So I gave up getting any sort of light off the eye, but I think that was a good trade off. I lightened the photo just a bit so some detail is seen in the deer instead of being nearly black. Does that work as intended? Comments and critiques welcomed and appreciated.

Peter ..I love the scene you have captured here. There is a sense of mystery, and the rim light and the out of focus background. Something different here and I like this one .

I like the mood you have captured here Peter and mood is what a beautiful photograph is often about and good detail is not a prerequisite at all for that. So, good choice you made! Ideally the OOF vegetation in front of the tree/deer would not be there; some selective darkening of that may reduce its impact. Further I would tone down the brightest areas a tad.

Balan and Vincent - I appreciate your positive feedback on this image. I'm trying to find more situations like this instead of normal/static animal portraits as a way of putting more feelings and emotion into my photos. But I won't pass a good portrait by if it presents itself.
