Little unknown moth at about 1/2-3/4" from a Black-eyed Susan flower in our garden.
F/14, 1/200th, ISO 800, 1D M3, Sigma 150mm f/2.8 and flash in shade..

That's a pretty amazing find because of how well it blends in with the center of what looks like a Black-eyed Susan. Interesting, because it doesn't look like a flash picture to me.

Expertly captured as usual, Howard. I especially like the detail in the eye. Good job on getting the subject parallel to the lens. :toast:

I am jealous once again. You have a Honey Hole pond and a garden full of treats to attract the creatures.
The flash works well here and the yellow petals anchor the scene. Sweet :toast:

What an interesting eye on that moth! You did handle the flash beautifully here!

Beautiful little moth, expertly photographed. Looks like one of the bird-dropping Noctuids in the genus Tarache. There are several dozen species, but common elements of the forewing pattern make many of them quite similar. You can browse images of some of them at http://bugguide.net/node/view/398485/bgimage

Howard:

A really handsome moth and pretty perch to boot. Good use of the flash (is this on camera flash?).

Just started learning about moths. There is an astounding >2000 species in HK alone so matching up with a name can be a challenge. I think Peter is on the right track.
