Inquisitive

Out early this morning to the local nature area. Nice morning with just a little ground fog and reasonably warm so I didn't have to bundle up much. This youngster (last year's fawn) acted quite interested in me and seemed to want it's picture taken. So why not? A bit rough coated and I thought later maybe the deer are in the process of shedding the winter coat for a lighter warm season coat. The image is a bit tight on the bottom and may pinch it's toes. I did warm this up a little and also lightened by a half stop. Otherwise it's full frame as shot. Comments and critiques are appreciated and wlecomed.

Nice illumination of the main subject while the other parts of the image are in shade.
Beautiful catchlights and nice texture in the coat.

Personally I would have liked a bit more space to the left of the mother in the background. As you mentioned yourself a little bit more at the bottom would be nice as well, both for the feet but also to include a bit more of those beautiful small flowers.

I like the way you have used the dynamic range and sharpness and rule-of-thirds position to make the subject pop out in this image. Great catchlights as Johan noted. Excellent capture; thanks for sharing it !

Good use of selective focus here Peter. The main subject really stands out well in that good light and with that catchlight in the eyes. The doe in the BG adds to the overall scene. I would have divided the space on both sides of the does to the frame edges equally here. Good work Peter! :toast:

The eye contact with the curious deer draws the viewer in very well, at least it does for this viewer. And nice catchlights in those eyes. I like the low saturation in the colors that works well for young animals. I agree with the previous suggestions regarding composition.

Wouldn't be right to not take its picture when it begs like that. Lovely image - lots of personality in those eyes.
