Sand Waves

A second image from a recent trip. Probably a "make lemonade" type image as the time of day wasn't exactly what I would have preferred. But I didn't have complete control of the schedule so, looked for different things that might work. This isn't a close up image, as the field of view is larger than that, not sure it's a landscape either, but it is a one take on Great Sand Dunes National Park.

Nikon D600, Nikon 24-70 f2.8 @32mm, 1/400 f8, ISO 400. Not sure the larger version adds much after conversion and compression, but it's there too.

Russ, you make good lemonade. I like the comp that gives a sense of motion downward and the forms outlined by the lighter shades. Well seen and Well Done!! Chet

Thanks Chet, the posted image lacks some of the "flavor" I'm seeing in the processed version on my monitor, particularly in the contrast and color. But that's to be expected I'm sure. I was going for some subtlety, and it looks pretty subtle here.

The detail and texture in the larger are really great. The patterns formed by the highligts in the sand add even more and make this a very intresting image to wander around. A limited palette of color but such a range of tones within that palette. Nice job, Russ.

Russ, I'm not finding the TOD or lighting excessive at all. In fact the texture and tones look good to me. Makes for a nice abstract IMO.

Hi Russ,
Very nice texture but I think the lack of an object or any pattern to focus on is a real problem here.

Never concede weakness up front, it is like throwing meat to a wolf.
Seriously, i think this is pretty cool, Russell! I like the lighting here, works well with the pattern. My only suggestion is to crop the bottom--that one dark polygon on the blhs doesnt mesh as well with the rest of the comp. Nice!

Good advice Stan, there are times when confession may not be good for the soul. Yup, I agree that wet spot doesn't really fit with the rest of the pattern, funny how I don't catch things until it out there for all the world to see. But there I go confessing again.

I like the light rippling across the sand. Very nice, Russ.
