Screaming Eagle

Taken this week during a snow storm.

This adult male eagle had been feeding on some type of carcass when a second year female flew overhead to check out what he was doing.

Despite the mature bird letting out some piercing screams, the female juvenile landed and forced the adult male off the food.

Nikon D300; 500mm; f6.3 @ 1/640th; ISO 320: APPROX.40% ff. Brightened significantly in PP as poor light and falling snow made proper exposure difficult for me.

All comments and suggestions most welcome.

Thought he was catching snowflakes! What a cool pose you've captured. Detail held up fairly well for the crop. Must have been fun to see. Sharon

Like the pose you caught this guy in! Good detail in the dark feathers and light head. Hard to tell what the prey was, almost looks like chicken feet. Thanks for sharing.

My neck hurts just looking at this, cool pose. Definitely some difficult shooting conditions, but I wonder if the image might benefit from a slight increase of the blacks as well as a reduction of the saturation, the feet appear rather orange on my monitor. I'm looking forward to seeing some eagles up my way soon again.

Nice action. Females can be that way and the males know when to back off.

Well done in tough conditions, I think the exposure is spot-on. The squarish crop also adds well to the image. The snow flakes over the bird enhances the sense of place and time wonderfully.

Fine unusual gesture you've captured. And I like the oof snowflakes that add to the scene. Well done.
