Late afternoon at the Arboretum was the best time to find this Bufflehead Drake actively feeding. Luckily I caught him in one of his brief moments topside for a breath!
Panasonic GH3, Lumix 100-300 @ 300 (=600mm equivalent in 35mm format), cpl, hh; f5.6, 1/500th, ISO 1250, -1.33 EV.
Thanks for the ongoing inspiration, while I’ve taken a break from posting and commenting.

You did a good job of holding the whites and still having some detail in the blacks.

Nice duck. I doubt we have them, so always nice to see. Stands out well on the dark water and good details. Love the ripples in this as well, that adds a nice touch along with the reflection. The larger view shows this off well.

All the best Catherine.

Danny.

I like the overall tones in this shot Catherine. In the larger version the duck is a bit soft to my eye.

Good job exposing the whites without losing all the detail in those blacks Catherine.
Pleasing bit of reflection there, and the water looks fine..
Sounds like he was a busy 'beaver'
