Last Summer, I found this spangled skimmer perched along the path in a sandy area of a local natural area. I would have liked to have been closer and with lots of wind, I was forced to open up the aperture for speed. Although recently emerged, this skimmer was missing a leg. K10d, 300 mm f4, f6.3 23mm extension, natural light.................Jim

Excellent detail in the skimmer, Jim, and I like the abstract look of the bg. I think stopping down any more would have resulted in the bg competing with the subject. This looks quite good to me just as is. :toast:

A fine capture, Jim. I really like his pose on the perch and your comp. I agree with Scott that any smaller aperture might have made the background too distracting and I think the details you captured in the skimmer at this aperture are quite good. Too bad he's missing a leg. . .probably he can make do better without a leg though, than if he had a problem with his wings. I like the interesting looking "hairs" on the stem perch.
