Great first post Bill, nice light up towards the front of the bird & good detail from what I can see at this size.
I might consider less space up top if you can manage it?
Your large post is actually smaller BTW. The LP version helps a lot if you want a more helpful critique in the future..

Welcome to NPN, Bill! An excellent first post! A couple of nits: There is a sharpening halo along the back,bill, legs and left wing; your large image is actually smaller than your small image. You can find help posting under the Galleries menu, at the bottom, a link to site tips and help. Also in the Digital Imaging Forum. As for sharpening, just back off until the halo (the thin white line) disappears.

Welcome to NPN, Bill. I really like the wing position and the nice eye contact in this image. There's a lot of bright fringe on the legs that's probably due to a bit too much sharpening. It can be removed with a little work (there are others who have slick methods-I use brute force).
