Taking off!

Made it out to Rowe sanctuary this week for sunrise in one of their blinds. The morning started out perfect, stars were out as we headed to the blind. But as sunrise approached a heavy overcast descended upon the Platte so light was less than stellar and I had to push the ISOs higher then I would of liked. On the positive side though because of the cloudiness the cranes tended to linger on the river longer.

It is very difficult to do justice to a subject (the "taking off" bird) when there is so much competition. There is also quite a blue color cast that could stand some toning down. I do like the taking off SHC with the water leaving his feet. Speaking of water leaving, it looks like there is a CW tilt.

Neat to get the jumping crane unobstructed, John. Noise looks good for that iso. I think I'd consider cropping this to vertical to emphasize the main subject more.

Nice clean shot of the jumping crane. I agree with trying the vertical crop. In the blinds at Rowe Sanctuary it is sometimes hard to get a clean shot of one or two birds because you are so close to so many. The first time I was there it was heavily overcast, but the next year the light was great and I got a lot of nice shots.

Must be quite a sight. I would like to see more of a focus on one bird...the bird lifting off would be nice if it didn't intersect with the bird behind and to the left. I think the rotation is ok on this. Sharon
