Glow of the Gods

I posted a vertical version of this image months ago, and not so long ago decided to process the horizontal version. It's starting to heat up down here, which has me thinking about the monsoon storms this summer. Although this looks like it has a ton of photoshop, it actually doesn't. This was merely the result of blending two images together and this is what happened. Of course I did my usual adjustments, but nothing crazy or out of the ordinary for me. Comments and critiques appreciated.

This is an absolutely stunning shot. I love the side light on left side, and the natural vignette caused by the hillsides in shadow. You've handled the extreme contrast very well, and the warm light reflected on the underside of the cloud is an added bonus. No nits from me. This is one I would love to see in print.

Thank you Ben, I am probably going to get this one done soon. It seemed to be quite popular on other venues over the internet thus far.

Thanks Rick, this was photographed from locust point along the grand canyon. It certainly isn't a view point the typical visitor will see.

Cool composition and light. Of course the light is directional from the sun, but I can't shake the sense of the canyon wall shining the light up to the sky!

Magnificent light show Peter! The light on the canyon floor is especially stunning. You handled this dynamic scene very well.

Grand Canyon? If so, my first thought is that it's really hard to show a familiar place with new drama, but you definitely pulled it off here. Light is fantastic, nicely done.

Reminds me of a painting by one of the masters - the warm light nicely pulls the eye across the image.

Thats a killer shot Peter. That spot lighting is to die for. Your blend looks about as good as it gets too. Congrats!!!

Perfect lighting. Couldn't have asked for better, IMO.

Canyon shots tend to have an unflattering line on the horizon where nothing connects the bottom to the top.

This photo works well because the light and clouds create a nice line that connects the photograph from top to bottom and from corner to corner.

The light is awesome. I think the curves in the canyon mixed with the light and the rays make this a very strong image. Beautiful.

A very believable range of tones. Nice work on the blend, and this is a strong shot from comp to pp.

Thanks Aaron. This is locust point on the north rim of the grand canyon. It takes quite a few dirt roads to get here and easy to get lost out there.

Gorgeous! That is the kind of light and drama we are all after isn't it? Nicely blended and most certainly 'print-worthy'.
