Red Cone Peak

Red Cone Peak, in the background is a volcanic, rhyolite mountain near Breckenridge, Colorado. This was shot from a ridge leading up to Whale Peak with an intermediate ridge between. It was very windy, I was up at around 12,800 feet above tree line, with clouds continually rolling across the scene creating mottled patterns on the peaks. So it was a matter of waiting until the sun hit certain parts of the scene and other areas were in shade. I was drawn to the abstract nature of the scene with the red peak beyond and the green in front and would love to get your thoughts and critiques. Thank you for looking.

Really like the tones and color in the mountains Scott. I almost wish there was less foreground and more of the colorful peaks. But very nice as is.

A strong tele-comp to enhance the lines and tones in this one, Scott. Love the variations of color and light. It all makes for a very keen abstract!

Thanks for your comments Bill and Morris. Bill, there is a ridge that runs almost horizontal right above the top of the image, if I were to raise the camera even slightly I would start to get sky in part of the image. There is also not much red higher up. There is more red lower on the peak but I can't get any higher viewpoint than this.

A beautifully conceived abstract, Scott. I really like the lack of scale here along with the colorful mountainside. :toast:

Great perspective from this vantage point, Scott. Looks like an amazing geological formation too. No ideas for any changes, just liking the view overall.

The colors and textures are really nice.I agree with Bill about the foreground. If you could have gotten closer and made a pano out of this image and not get the ridge at the top.

This is nice. I like the shifts in color and the almost liquid feel to the talus slopes. Nice work
