WC-578 Tiger Splash

Here's another from the Calgary Zoo. Back in 2008, they used to allow 'Passport Level' members on the grounds in the evening (after hours until 8pm) on Wednesdays and Sundays through the summer months. As the zoo is only a few minutes from downtown Calgary where I was working at the time, I often went there after work. It was a great way to wind-down from a day in the office.

On one of those nights, I had the opportunity to watch one of our Siberian tigers playing in the pond that is part of their habitat. The tiger enclosure has glass viewing areas as well as fencing, and I can't remember which this was through.

1/200 sec at f/5.6, ISO 800. Canon 40D, 100-400mm lens @ 400mm.

Great capture with just enough blur in the water drops to convey action. :toast:

Gorgeous. I think you caught the head right at the exact moment when it had stopped and the tiger was about to turn it in the opposite direction. Really nice, sharp focus and isolation of the face from the rest of the image; beautiful bokeh in the foliage. As someone said, you have enough laps there to see the direction in many of the droplets.

Truly extradinorary ! And by the way, I love Calgary Zoo, and Calgary, and Banff and all the parks.

Nice action capture with all the flying water and decent sharpness on the nose and face.

Very nice by every measure. I like that the animal appears to be in natural habitat/environment.

Just a fabulous zoo action shot, Karen! I like the way the drops are frozen as they are randomly flying in all directions. Good job getting his face still and in good focus in spite of all this vigorous shaking. These are such beautiful animals and your shot reveals this beauty even in the midst of all the action. Well done!

Very nice work here, Karen. This image is all about motion, and you picked the prefect SS to emphasize that.
