Taken at Descanso Gardens, Flint Ridge, California. Early morning light. Nikon D-300 ISO 200 1/1000 sec. f./8.0 70-300 Nikor zoom lens 4.5-5.6 Focal Length 195 mm. These shots are made much easier with a zoom lens.
I do a lot of Macro work with my zoom lenses.

Hi William, welcome to NPN and to the Macro & Close-up gallery. Excellent first post here. I like the nice light on the flower and butterfly and the dark background. The image is simple but very elegant. I don't shoot macro with a longer zoom, but something I plan to do more. You achieved a very nice result here with your zoom. Thanks for sharing, and I am looking forward to seeing more of your photography.

p.s., very nice first post in flora as well. I like your use of the dramatic lighting in both images. :toast: :wavey:

Getting all of the BF and the flower sharp here is great. The clean background is nice also and I really like the outline effect on the flower stem. It may be the jpg compression, but the abdomen looks blown out, but that's a very minor nit pick on a really fine picture.
