Taken at Joshua Tree National Park California. Nikon D-300 18-200 mm zoom lens. ISO 200 Focal Length 18 mm. 1/250 Sec. at f/13. I am wondering about the composition. It looks good to me.

This quickly conveys the feel of the desert in JT. My eye starts at the wall on the left, moves to the foreground boulder, then on right through the plants and on into the sky, making a loop around this image. In that way it works, but I feel my eye gets lost in a bit too much sky. The clouds help but it would be nice if they were more dramatic (you take what you can get, but I'd be interested how this would look in B&W with a red filter to really darken the blue and add contrast to the sky). Perhaps a higher camera position could have shrunk the volume of sky down a bit. The WB seems a bit cool, turning the JT granite more white than tan.

An interesting perspective here, William. I've been to JTNP numerous times and I'm not sure exactly where this might be. I might try shooting this area in a bit softer light, but again, an interesting perspective to work with.

This would work nicely with better (e.g. early morn or late afternoon) light.

This is the Photo I intended to post. One is cold, that's the wrong one. The Warm one is the one that I wanted to post. I always take my shots in the early AM with warm Sun light. The cold shot was a poor edit by me, sorry.

I like this view, good job on the composition!
Maybe I am in the minority, but I prefer the colder version. I actually find it more natural looking, while the warm version looks "filtered". There is also some cyan-ish tint in the sky which I don't find that appealing in the warmer version.

I like your composition here William. I agree with Dietrich in that I like this version better. I think it would be better with early reddish or yellow tints in the sky to warm it up. But very nice as is. Well done.

William, glad you were able to re-post your intended version. Although the first version may have some appeal for certain reasons, the second is much more natural for JTNP. As a weekly visitor to the park I'm more accustom to the look of the warmer version overall.

The composition works well for me and like the contrast of textures between sky & rocks. I wonder if that slight magenta cast to the sky was added? Works well either way.
