Wild Seed Head

For a while I lived on a remote farm surrounded by BLM land in northern New Mexico, and would often see these Apache Plume seed heads glowing in the sunset light. When I went to photograph them I ended up staring into the sun through the viewfinder for so long it makes me shudder to think of it, though the result is well worth it to me. Still, I often shoot into the sun and Live View has been amazing at allowing me to do that without ruining my vision. This shot was taken just after the sun dipped below the horizon, and is framed between very out-of-focus Juniper trees on each side.

Thomas: Gotta love your rig! I thought the M7 was the finest film camera I ever handled and I got started in macro with the 100mm macro. Add the Velvia and this is old school nirvana. Well seen and captured. >=))> :toast:

I almost wish for more of the seed head Thomas. I find the light a little overpowering.

This is indeed a beautiful image from a well executed concept.

BUT it is NOT worth damaging your vision!!
